Grassland Birds and Mammals

On Monday a friend and I took a drive down south to Chaplin and Reid Lake to see if there were any rare shorebirds around, any returnee migrants, and also to see if we could find (or at least hear), some grassland sparrows, buntings and longspurs.

We were unsuccessful in finding any rare shorebirds, but we did see and hear Baird's Sparrow, Chestnut-collared Longspur, Nelson's and Le Conte's Sparrow, and a single male Lark Bunting.

Another highlight was a great look at an American Badger.
