Well, its that time of year again, and I'm happy to be doing another batch of bird counts, six to be exact. There's always the possibility of finding something rare too, and I'm always on the lookout for mammals that I've not seen before!
Here's a Northern Flicker that I got as it was coming in for a landing at the bird bath a few weeks ago :
Hi Nick...Gorgeous shot of the Flicker ..I really like that one!! Your going to be a busy guy with all those bird counts...hope your practicing your numbers, and that there is more birds than you have fingers....just teasing ; } lol Hope it all goes well, and you have lots of sitings!! Merry Christmas to you and the family!!
Great shot ! Do you see hybrids (red shated yellow shafted)in Saskatoon ? In Regina I saw a male this summer with a red and black malar. By the way, do you know if this year is irruptive for snowy owls ? I saw a young male last weekend at Balgonie standing on a hydro pole beside highway #1. I did not see snowys last year.
Thanks guys. Yep, we definitely get hybrids here. Had one in the backyard last year in fact! There is a Snowy Owl irruption going on right now as I type this. They are all over North America it seems.
